The Brad Tucker Scholarship provides assistance with college expenses for Spring High School students that exemplify exceptional leadership potential, spirit for service, and a broad ability to be involved in many elements of SHS, including athletics, academics, and extracurricular events.

About Brad K. Tucker

Brad Tucker was born on January 6, 1970, in Texas. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on April 16, 1991, and completed basic training at NTC Great Lakes, Illinois, in June 1991. Tucker next attended Hospital Corpsman A School at NTC Great Lakes and NTC San Diego, California, from June 1991 to February 1992, followed by Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, California, from February to October 1992. Petty Officer Tucker attended advanced SEAL training at Coronado from October 1992 to February 1993, and then Basic Airborne training at Fort Benning, Georgia, in February and March 1993. He next attended additional medical training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, from March to August 1993, followed by service with SEAL Team TWO at NAB Little Creek, Virginia, from August 1993 to August 1995. He served aboard the amphibious transport dock USS Shreveport (LPD-12) from August 1995 to March 1997, and then served with Naval Special Warfare Unit TWO at Stuttgart, Germany, from March to August 1997. Petty Officer Tucker’s next assignment was back with SEAL Team TWO at Little Creek from August 1997 to April 1998, followed by additional training at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, from April to September 1998. His final assignment was with SEAL Team FOUR at NAB Little Creek from September 1998 until he was killed in a training accident in the Bahamas on March 9, 2000. Brad Tucker was buried at Brookside Memorial Park in Houston, Texas.

His 3rd Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal Citation reads:

For professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving in two platoons and as a training department instructor at SEAL Team TWO from August 1993 to March 1998. Petty Officer Tucker excelled as Hotel platoon’s leading corpsman while deployed to Sarajevo as a CJSOTF Quick Reaction Force squad member in support of Operation JOINT GUARD. His vast knowledge of trauma medicine was evident and proved instrumental by successfully conducted five Joint Combined Exercise for Training operations in Bosnia with Danish, Dutch, French, German and Italian Special Operation Forces. As the senior Naval Special Warfare medical representative on a ten-day joint traveling program to Lithuania, he professionally instructed 30 Lithuanian Special Operation Forces on emergency medicine techniques. In addition, he demonstrated exceptional skill and knowledge as he taught three combat swimmer instructor courses where he personally supervised over 400 hours of accident free diving. Petty Officer Tucker’s professionalism and loyal dedication to duty reflected great credit upon himself and are in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

The Brad Tucker Scholarship is a privately funded, annual award given to the most qualified Spring High School senior.

Given in honor of Brad Tucker, the most qualified Spring High School senior will excel in the following categories and present the committee with a vision for his/her future in leader and service.

About the Application and Selection Process

The Oversight Committee will score all applications received during the open application period and evaluate the applications and accompanying references. The Oversight Committee will send interview invitations to top candidates for personal interviews. The winning senior will be announced at our annual reception to honor the applicants and the scholarship winner.

The Oversight Committee & Board of Directors is a volunteer board comprised of community and business leaders that attended Spring High School in 1988 with Brad Tucker.

On behalf of Brad’s legacy and commitment to servant leadership, the Oversight Committee & Board of Directors is determined to influence the lives of students attending Spring High School positively by helping deserving students to afford a successful college career. The Brad Tucker Scholarship is a 501c3 incorporated in the State of Texas in 2019. Our NTEE code is B82 (Scholarships, Student Financial Aid, Awards). Brad Tucker lived and died as a servant leader. As such, our organization is entirely volunteer led. We believe strongly in transparency and pledge to regularly update donors and community members with financial and tax filings, and as well, tracking against our internal pledge to the highest of operating standards.
